How is Conservation
Havens different from non-profits like The Nature Conservancy
or land trusts?
The work we do complements
the important work of local land trusts and The Nature Conservancy.
We are a "conservation buyer" in their model and as
such we work closely with land conservation and land trust non-profits
to locate high conservation value private properties. When we
donate or make a bargain sale of a conservation easement it is
then held by a well established land trust for generations to
come.
Has this been
done before?
Yes. Usually this is
done by small groups of family or friends purchasing a small vacation
home or property using a simple partnership structure or sharing
title. We are improving on this approach to make it more attractive
to unrelated parties using a carefully designed LLC structure.
What is your
status?
We are currently evaluating
properties for option or purchase in Colorado. We anticipate choosing
a property and moving forward with sales of 8 to 12 shares in
that property in the next 6 months.
We are in the pre-marketing
stage actively seeking like-minded buyers to discuss our approach
and get their input to refine our approach.
Do you allow
hunting on your property?
No, but we welcome hunters
as owners. While our property will be managed for wildlife conservation
with no hunting and no lethal predator control, there should be
plenty of places to hunt on neighboring properties or in the national
forest and other public lands that border our property.
Will there be
fishing on your property?
We hope so! We are actively
seeking properties with live fishing water on the property. Given
the high price of private fishing water the fishing may be a short
drive away.
We welcome your
questions and input on our approach.
